The looks of the Nebelung

Like the Russian Blue, the Nebelung also has different types. Some have more American type Russian blue look, and other a more English look. (more info? Follow the links at the below). But all of them have the medium long coat over the body with increasing length from the shoulder area to tail. The length of the coat still makes you notice the athletic cat that carries the coat. Males may display a neck ruff, but females to a lesser extent. The fur is longer on the tail. Feathering behind the ears of a lighter shade of blue is desirable.
The soft two-layered coat, suitable for all weather, resistant to water. Pantaloons on hind legs.

The winter coat could be denser, fuller, longer and softer and summer coat is less dense and tends to drape over the body. Adult coats may take up to two years to fully develop. The coat of the Nebelung is easy to maintain. A little bit of brushing of the cat every week, and at molting period twice a week is sufficient.

The Nebelung is only recognized in the color blue. But this can range from lighter to middle blue

Like many other breeds different breeding standards are applied to the Nebelung by the cat societies around the world. The G.C.C.F. Russian Blue standard is used at cat shows I visit in Europe (only the length of hair differs). The T.I.C.A. recognizes the Nebelung as a seperate breed, so their standard is only applied to the Nebelung. If you'd like, take a look at the standard of the Nebelung and Russian blues.
